Horses have teeth too!
Dental exams and maintenance are important aspect of equine preventative health care. A horse’s teeth continue to erupt throughout its life and dental abnormalities caused by normal wear or injury can lead to weight loss, poor performance, or behavioral problems. The Snake River Veterinary Center recommends that your horse receives an oral exam by a veterinarian each year, beginning at a year of age. A veterinarian experienced in equine health care can diagnose and treat any problems your horse may suffer. Floating is the process of removing or correcting abnormalities in the dental arcade with the use of hand tools and motorized equipment and generally requires the horse to be sedated. If you have any questions regarding equine dental care or would like to schedule an appointment for an oral exam and teeth float, contact our office at (208) 452-7950.

Equine Deworming Programs
Current thoughts on equine deworming are moving away from the traditional programs that treat horses every 8 to 12 weeks with rotating products for internal parasites.  A more reasonable approach is to utilize fecal egg counts and parasite screenings to determine how often and what product to use to treat your horse. Parasite screenings are simple to perform and are conducted in house at Snake River Veterinary Center.  Give us a call or drop off sample of your horse’s manure for a fecal screening.

Pregnancy Detection in Cattle
Whether it is beef or dairy cattle, pregnancy determination and gestational age are important information to consider when making management decisions.  The veterinarians at Snake River Veterinary Center can provide this information and help you use its potential to help your bottom line.
